Ukraine and India: activating trade and economic cooperation

On 18 June 2025, the inaugural meeting of the Ukrainian-Indian Working Group on Cooperation in Agriculture and Food Industry was held with the participation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the SSUFSCP, the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs of the Republic of India and the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of topical issues of bilateral cooperation, in particular: expanding exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the Republic of India and further steps to intensify trade and economic cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to the export of plant and animal products, exchange of experience in the field of sanitary and phytosanitary control, and harmonisation of relevant standards in accordance with international requirements.

‘This meeting was a logical continuation of our dialogue with Indian colleagues, which was launched during the recent General Assembly of the World Organisation for Animal Health, where we discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation together with the Head of the SSUFSCP Serhiy Tkachuk,’ said Volodymyr Kusturov, Deputy Head of the SSUFSCP.

Ukraine and India cooperate in this area within the framework of the World Trade Organisation's Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS), a key international document that ensures scientifically based, transparent and safe regulation of trade in plants, animals and products of their origin by setting common standards.

The development of international partnerships and strengthening the position of Ukrainian products in foreign markets remain the priority areas of work of the SSUFSCP.

We remind you that this year the market for exporting Ukrainian apples to India was opened, and the first batch of products has already been delivered.
