Since 2021, on 23 September, Ukraine has been celebrating the Organic Day together with the European Union. It helps to raise awareness of organic products among Ukrainian consumers, promote organic production practices and consolidate the national organic sector.
On this occasion, the experts of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection joined the conference “Organic Day in Ukraine” organised by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and Organic Initiative Public Association with support of Switzerland within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP) and Germany within the framework of the German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Ukraine project (COA).
The event brought together the representatives of business, government, civil society and international experts to discuss current issues and trends in the organic sector in Ukraine and globally.
Today, retail chains offer a wide range of food products, including those labelled with a special mark — the state logo for organic products which distinguishes organic products from nonorganic ones. It is important that, apart from the imported organic food products with the EU organic logo, we have products of domestic producers with the state logo that combines the colours of the Ukrainian national flag.
The organic sector in Ukraine is developing steadily, and we are currently witnessing the expansion of the domestic market and strengthening of Ukraine’s position as an organic exporting country on the international market.
For reference. Since August 2023, Ukrainian agricultural producers and processors have been able to be certified in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Basic Principles and Requirements for Organic Production, Circulation and Labelling of Organic Products". State supervision (control) in this area is carried out by the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection and its territorial bodies.
