12th session of the Commission on Phytosanitary measures within the framework of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has been held on April 03d-12th, 2017 in Incheon city (Republic Corea). State Service of Ukraine on Food safety and Consumer Protection has been represented by Mr. Andrew Chelombitko - Deputy Director of Department - Head of Phytosanitary Security Directorate of Department of Phytosanitary Security Control in the field of seed and seedling.
As Mr. Andrew Chelombitko informed, key strategic issues of the International Convention on quarantine and plant protection (IPPC) for 2020-2030 and draft amendments to the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) had been considered during this session.
Special attention was paid to the plants health, features of international standards implementation, simplification of the transportation of plants and plant products in the international trade, application of technical standards for phytosanitary treatment of plants and plant products, requirements compliance for wood packaging material.
"In particular, during the meeting participants have discussed in details the issues of combating pests in the regulated objects using cold treatments on citrus, heat treatment against Ceratitis capitata in mango using Sulfuryl fluoride fumigation drugs and feed on wood, providing transportation in sea containers, international transportation of wood "- said Mr. Andrew Chelombitko.
As Mr. Chelombitko said, such events allow high-level analysis of accumulated experience in phytosanitary sphere and give a chance to work out new approaches taking into account the results that have been obtained. At the same time this provides a communication exchange of information among international trading partners in the field of phytosanitary and establishes fruitful cooperation between competent authorities and relevant regional and international organizations.
