Online training on practical aspects of implementation of the Ukrainian organic legislation took place
On 14 May 2024, an online training “Frequently asked questions on the Requirements of the Organic Legislation of Ukraine” was held to raise awareness of the legislation on the basic principles and requirements for organic production, circulation and labelling of organic products.
The event was attended by more than 200 participants, including market operators, state inspectors of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, representatives of NGOs, advisory bodies and other stakeholders.
Oleg Osiyan, First Deputy Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, opened the online training with a welcome speech: “Systematic training activities on the implementation and explanation of the organic legislation of Ukraine with the support of international projects help to increase the number of domestic producers exporting organic products to Europe and the world. Therefore, the introduction of the European practice in Ukraine regarding the elaboration, dissemination and use of the publication “Frequently Asked Questions on Organic Legislation of Ukraine” allows all organic market players to quickly find answers to urgent questions and facilitate activities in the organic sector of the country”.
At the event, which was organised at the request of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in partnership with the Organic Standard certification body and with the support of Switzerland within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP), presented the publication “Frequently Asked Questions on Organic Legislation of Ukraine”, which contains important information that provides comprehensive answers to the most urgent questions about the Law of Ukraine “On Basic Principles and Requirements for Organic Production, Circulation and Labelling of Organic Products”, that are of concern to operators and other organic market players.
At the end of the online training, Ms Anna Yermak, representative of the Department of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, added: “As a result of today's event, at least 200 organic market players now know where to find answers to frequently asked questions about the organic legislation of Ukraine, and this is a very good indicator. Of course, this document will be updated as the legislation changes, and we are grateful that thanks to the experts, organic sector stakeholders have the opportunity to better understand how Ukrainian and EU organic legislations work”.
The active participation of the training participants and the large number of questions raised indicated the relevance and usefulness of this training. Supporting organic sector participants in their activities in the process of implementing the Law of Ukraine “On Basic Principles and Requirements for Organic Production, Circulation and Labelling of Organic Products” is important for all stakeholders.
