Since the first days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine there has been need for the search of new logistics routes both internally and outside the country. The implications of occupation of a part of territories, damage of food warehouses and disruption of conventional routes are already perceptible around the globe, since more than 190 states depend on Ukrainian food to which products of Ukrainian origin are shipped.
National Food Security Platform was established within the SSUFSCP to tackle this issue in Ukraine. More than 4.5 thousand agricultural companies, distribution networks, local administrations, food and logistics companies have become the platform participants in the first three months of its operation, which allows them to exchange information on demand for food articles and available supply thereof in real time, as well as to conclude contracts online.
“The successful experience of the platform’s functioning can be scaled to tackle food security challenges around the world, return Ukraine to the global food market and ensure common use of data of international players of the food market”, comment by Anatolii Vovniuk, Acting Head of the SSUFSCP.
The platform accumulates data on food balance sheet and available supply and demand, which can be used both in Ukraine and outside its borders. Soon a dedicated section for exporters will be created on the platform allowing international partners (logistics companies and traders) to plan and conclude contracts with Ukrainian companies, including for the purpose of addressing food supply issues in other states.
“The fact that the SSUFSCP controls the data published on the platform is an advantage. Specialists verify the registered businesses and check the credibility of information entered into the system. The tool which we currently have in place can help overcome the challenges caused by the global threat to food security”, Anatolii Vovniuk says.
If you care about food security issues, feel free to join the platform. Businesses can join the platform in the status of participants, whereas everyone willing can contribute to its development. Please submit your proposals to the email address uafsp@dpss.gov.ua.
