A recent online meeting was dedicated to the discussion of the roadmap for the implementation of animal welfare legislation for 2025–2027.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of economy, environment and agriculture Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP) Volodymyr Kusturov, as well as representatives of international projects, business associations, and industry organizations.
The roadmap for ensuring the implementation of EU legislation on the welfare of farm animals in Ukraine was jointly developed by the SSUFSCP and the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, together with European experts.
The roadmap sets out the necessary measures for aligning national legislation on the welfare of farm animals with EU requirements, planning these measures, supporting the enforcement of legislative provisions, and establishing and implementing a state control system for market operators’ compliance with animal welfare legislation.
We are already working on training inspectors and issuing certificates to ensure the proper level of professionalism. At the same time, the involvement of industry associations, international partners, and technical assistance projects will make it possible to apply European experience and best practices - noted Volodymyr Kusturov.
Following the meeting, participants agreed on joint further steps to advance the animal welfare agenda. As of 2026, new requirements will come into effect, therefore preparing the state and society for their effective implementation remains a priority.
