Delegation of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection Holds a Series of Working Meetings at BIOFACH 2025 International Organic Trade Fair
posted 13 February 2025 17:45

The delegation of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, led by the Deputy Head for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalisation, Sergii Zakharin, held a series of working meetings during the BIOFACH 2025 trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany.

As part of the event, the delegation met with Cem Özdemir, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture and Federal Minister of Education and Research, to exchange views on various aspects of Ukrainian-German cooperation in the field of organic production.

Additionally, the delegation held a series of working meetings with Ukrainian organic exporters, as well as experts from international organisations and projects.

Sergii Zakharin informed that, under the instruction of the Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Serhii Tkatchuk, systematic steps are taken to optimise the procedures for state monitoring of organic product quality indicators and to ensure proper product labelling. The List of Foreign Certification Bodies (the list is available on the official website of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection ), which includes details of 56 foreign certification bodies from 24 countries, is regularly updated. Specialists from the State Service are actively engaged in the implementation of European norms and standards, aiming to create clear and standardised conditions for producers selling their products both on the EU market and domestically, as well as to harmonise certification procedures for similar products across different markets.

Work is currently underway to create and fill in an ‘Organic Products’ page on the official website of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection. This page will be dedicated to organic legislation and provide up-to-date information for consumers, operators, certification bodies, state inspectors, and other stakeholders.

"The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection is undertaking comprehensive measures to enhance monitoring and control in the field of organic production. Importantly, these efforts incorporate digital tools. In particular, we are expanding our range of e-democracy instruments to provide timely updates for stakeholders on legislative changes and best management practices. We are diligently developing and updating the 'Organic Products' page on our official web portal, which will serve as a key resource for a broad audience seeking up-to-date information on regulating the processes in the field of organic production, as well as a guidance for consumers.

Furthermore, we have created an electronic information guide ‘Frequently Asked Questions on the Legislative Requirements for Organic Production, Circulation, and Labelling of Organic Products.’ This guide, based on the equivalent EU document but in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation on organic production, circulation, and labelling of organic products, provides the answers to the key questions regarding the application of organic legislation in Ukraine. Through regular meetings with producers, we ensure effective engagement in line with European best practices”, emphasised Sergii Zakharin.
